Top 5 Reasons Why Pinoy Big Brother Hits Big!

Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) is the Philippine version of the reality television show Big Brother. It follows the same premise as its many foreign counterparts around the world: twelve Filipinos are forced to live with each other inside a house for at least 100 days. It is shown on ABS-CBN Channel 2 with snippets shown on Studio 23. Now in its second season, which started airing on February 25, PBB continues to glue their viewers’ eyes to the television.

On its first week alone, it received several criticisms especially from the MTRCB due to talks on contraceptives and very intimate scenes. Aside from that, several critics said that the show emphasizes more on controversy rather than exploiting the potential psychological factors and highlighting human nature. However, up to now, PBB still airs… and let us see why.

Big Reason #5:
Reality shows are such a hit nowadays. Gone are the days of Marimar, Rosalinda, Maria Clara, etc. While these telenovelas, with their stereotyped characters, evoked sympathy and emotion from viewers, reality shows are largely replacing telenovelas as they offer viewers fresh scenes on almost-celebrities. Viewers want something new, not some shows where the endings were already quite apparent from the very first episode!

Big Reason #4:
Pinoys want to know the identity of Kuya. Since he has been invisible ever since and he plays a very important role in the lives of the PBB housemates, it is the natural tendency of Pinoys to want to KNOW. Sadly, there will never be a chance to know him.

Big Reason #3:
The housemates are a bunch of different people—and some are quite exceptional in that they are neurotic, war freak, or both. They spark controversy with every statement they make… and yet they seem oblivious about it.

Big Reason #2:
Whatever these types of housemates are, there is always someone in the whole Philippines who can relate with them—their experiences, at that. The housemates are still humans and are subject to “bad vibes”. And last…

Big Reason #1:
Pinoys are just plain “usi”! Now who would disagree?! Pinoys are just naturally curious of everything the world, especially the TV, has to offer.

Onga eh… lahat ng kinukuha nila artistahin! Grr… Try nga nila kunin taga-squatters. Hmm… At isa pa nga, pagnagpakatotoo ang isang tao, di naman sya nagugustuhan na ng audience. Tsk tsk.Tapos puro lang naman sila patweetums eh. :s Wala namang sense.Nakakainis pa ang mga housemates in a way na ginagaya nila ang boses ni Kuya. Pansinin mo, walang tono pag nagsasalita sila. Parang si Kuya. Napakaboring. Napakamonotonous. 🙁

agree.. =) kasi bago ang mga reality shows, no script, no fake tears, etc. pero para sa'ken, for those gusto mag-artista mag-PBB sila. parang ganon eh. lahat ng kinuha nila sa PBB Teens ngayon pero artistahin. ang gaganda, ang guguwapo. in fact mestizo pa lahat ng mga boys! (O_x) ba't di nila kunin ung mga taga-squatter, ung talagang "raw" people kumbaga. that'll be better. ung 1st season lang ang gusto ko, ung kina Uma hehe. di ko type ung Teen Edition, i find it corny. u know, pa-cute & pa-sweet lahat. the theme diba is magpaka-totoo, so ok fine nagpapaka-totoo ung isang tao sa loob pero di sya magustuhan dahil sa sya ay sya. eh sa ganon talaga sya eh. my point is, di naman kelangan magbago para lang ma-please ang lahat.
