Cassie

Have you heard of the song “Cassie” by Flyleaf? Here’s how it goes…

I will say “Yes!”

The question asked in order
To save her life or take it
The answer “no” to avoid death
The answer “yes” would make it
Make it

“Do you believe in God?”
Written on the bullet
Say “Yes!” to pull the trigger
“Do you believe in God?”
Written on the bullet
And Cassie pulled the trigger

All heads are bowed in silence
To remember her last sentence
She answered him knowing what would happen
Her last words still hanging in the air
In the air

“Do you believe in God?”
Written on the bullet
Say “Yes!” to pull the trigger
“Do you believe in God?”
Written on the bullet
And Rachel pulled the trigger

Say “Yes!” to pull the trigger

How many will die
I will die
I, I will say “Yes!”

And Cassie pulled the trigger

“Do you believe in God?”
Written on the bullet
And Rachel pulled the trigger

“Do you believe in God?”
Written on the bullet
And I will pull the trigger

The first time I heard this, I didn’t understand anything.

When I heard the phrase, “Do you believe in God?” I thought that Flyleaf was anti-Christ, or something to that effect.

On the contrary, Flyleaf is actually a Christian band. And the song was about the Columbine High School massacre.

The massacre occurred on April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School in Colorado. Two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, embarked on a shooting rampage, killing 12 students and a teacher, as well as wounding 23 others, before committing suicide.

Now, Cassie Bernall and Rachel Scott are just 2 of the girls that were shot on that day. What’s their story?

They were both asked “Do you believe in God?”

And when they answered “Yes”, they were shot.

After the incident, they were both regarded as Christian martyrs as many.

Now, if you were in that situation, what would you answer when asked “Do you believe in God?”

Think.

I know I will say “Yes!”… and pull the trigger.
