The Philippines…
THE PHILIPPINES IS…
50. Where the most happening places is not where the party is. Instead its where the gang wars happen, where women strip and where the people overthrow a president. (I don’t think so! It’s just that we put those events more on the news than social parties and whatsoever.)
49. Where even doctors, lawyers and engineers are unemployed. (Well, that’s because lack job opportunities. Our President must do something about that!)
48. Where everyone has his personal ghost story. (I don’t have one. π And I don’t believe in them anyway. They’re just for fun reading.)
47. Where mountains like Makiling and Banahaw are considered as holy places. (Isn’t Mount Fuji considered sacred?)
46. Where everything can be forged. (Not just in the Philippines!)
45. Where the school is considered the second home and the mall considered as third. (Hahaha! This is funny!)
44. Where Starbucks coffee is more expensive than gas. (True. Starbucks frap costs around 110 to 140 bucks, while gas costs around 30-40 per liter.)
43. Where every street has a basketball court and every town only has one public school. (Well, I don’t think EVERY STREET has a basketball court. This is just plain exaggeration. And about the schools, there are at least two per town.)
42. Where all kinds of animals are edible. (Not! This is the case in China, though.)
41. Where people speak all kinds of languages, and still call it Tagalog. (Of course not. We have names for all our dialects.)
40. Where students pay more money than they will earn afterwards. (Maybe. But this utterly depends on the person.)
39. Where call center employees earn more money than teachers and nurses. (That’s because the government prioritizes the education and the health sector LESS.)
38. Where driving 4kms can take as much as 4hours. (Not! This is plain stupidity.)
37. Where flyovers bring you from the freeway to the side streets. (hahaha! I’ve seen one of these.)
36. Where the tourist spots is where Filipinos do not (or cannot) go. (This is NOT true! We go to tourists spots too. All the time.)

34. Where all 13 year olds are alcoholic. (Definitely not!)
33. Where colonial mentality is dishonestly denied! (It is not denied.)
32. Where 4am is not even considered bed time yet. (hehehe. We’re nocturnals.)
31. Where people can pay to defy the law. (That’s because the government allows it!)
30. Where everything is spoofed. (We’re happy people.)
29. Where even the poverty-stricken get to wear Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. (Fake yon!)
28. Where honking of car horns is a way of life. (Not really.)
27. Where being called a bum is never offensive. (Yeah. People take pride in it. I don’t know why though.)
26. Where flood waters take up more than 90 percent of the streets during the rainy season. (The people were never that disciplined.)
25. Where everyone has a relative abroad who keeps them alive. (Definitely not true!)
24. Where crossing the street involves running for your dear life. (That’s when you don’t know how to cross the street.)
23. Where wearing your national colors make you “baduy”. (Of course not!)
22. Where billiards is a sport, and darts is a bar game. (hahaha!)
21. Where even the poverty-stricken have the latest cell phones. (gsm – galing sa magnanakaw) (Not all of them!)
20. Where insurance does not work. (It works and it works in a great way!)
19. Where water can only be classified as tap and dirty. Clean water is for sale (35pesos/gallon). (I don’t know why this is the case.)
18. Where the church governs the people and where the government makes the people pray for miracles. (AMEN TO THAT!)
17. Where University of the Philippines is where all the weird people go. Ateneo is where all the nerds go. La Salle is where all the Chinese go.. College of Saint Benilde is where all the stupid Chinese go, and University of Asia and the Pacific is where all the irrelevantly rich people go. (This is plain stereotyping and NOT true!)
16. Where fastfood is a diet meal. (Definitely not! It contains more calories!)
15. Where traffic signs are merely suggestions not regulations. (hahaha!)

11. Where rodents are normal house pets. (No. No. No.)
10. Where the definition of traffic is the non-movement of vehicles. (True!)
9. Where the fighter planes of the 1940s are used for military engagements, and the new fighter planes are displayed in museums. (Definitely not always the case. The old ones are displayed in museums.)
8. Where being an hour late is still considered as punctual. (Filipino time, as they say). (I don’t follow Filipino time.)
7. Where cigarettes and alcohol are a necessity, and where the lottery is a commodity. (Definitely not!)
6. Where soap operas tell the realities of life and where the news provides the drama. (Hahaha! So true!)
5. Where actors make the rules and where politicians provide the entertainment. (kung gusto
mo mapikon, watch the news!)
4. Where finding a deer on the road will be a phenomenon. (“may deer dito? seryoso kayo?”)
3. Where people can get away with stealing trillions of pesos, but not for a thousand. (Pera-perahan lang.)
2. Where Nora Aunor is an acclaimed actress and Boy Abunda is the best talk show host. (Lolz.)
1. Where everyone wants to leave the country! (Not true! Some would rather stay and help lift the country out of poverty.)

Wow… I'm sure you do miss the Philippines. My relatives staying abroad make it a point to visit the Philippines every year! :)Yes, there are actually a lot of places suffering from poverty… especially here in Manila. Do you live in the USA? If you do, you may want to join Feed the Hungry. π You may check the internet for more info. π

Kinda true…for most, at least. I haven't been in Philippines for six years, but the memory of living there is still fresh in my mind. It wasn't all that bad where I came from (Laguna) pero I know that there are some places that are suffering from poverty.
