Some food for thought…

First, I’d like to tell you that you’ll hear the best homilies at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish. 🙂

Every week, I’ve always thought of blogging about the homilies I’ve heard during mass. But I never got the time to do so. Right now, I’m procrastinating. Which is not unusual, by the way. And I really really want to share this to everyone…

Tonight, the homily was about humanity… and the origin of hell.

Saan nga ba nagsimula ang impiyerno? Paano nagkaroon nito?

A Spanish philosopher actually wrote about this. In his book, he told a story which goes like this…

One time, human beings were in front of a gate… And that is the gate to heaven. Imagine that everyone was there — including every sinner and every saint that you know. Then while waiting, an angel slipped outside the gate and told someone that EVERYONE will enter the gates of heaven. Being human beings, the gossip spread like wildfire. Some were experiencing euphoria, some were so excited to enter, some were hesitant, some felt they were already in utopia, some were adamant, some were… Well, as humans, some acted like “crabs”.

Some said, “I’m sure I deserve to be in heaven because I’ve been very good while I was alive on Earth.” Then one added, “Yeah. This filthy person beside me doesn’t deserve to be in heaven. He’s a scum. He’s a cheater… a liar.” And of course, since someone thought out loud, the thought spread like gossip and soon everyone was doubting whether they really deserve to enter the pearly gates of heaven. Those who were thought of as evil soon felt isolated… like pariahs.

So that was the start of hell.

When people started doubting the generosity and love of God for us, hell was born.

Some people just cannot understand how kind and loving the Lord can be.

Some are utterly selfish and jealous, thinking that they are so righteous.

We are all the same.

We will all enter the pearly gates of heaven… Since God loves us all and He gave us His only Son to be our Savior. Just believe in Him and trust in Him. Put your faith in the Lord. Lift everything to Him.

If only people would start thinking of the kindness of the Lord, hell will cease to exist.

Instead of thinking, “Why is she so thin? And I’m so fat? I’ve been praying so hard yet I get this and that.” “Why do they have all these clothes and money and I don’t have a cent?” “Why does she have good grades and I don’t?”

Why not think about yourself. Think about the blessings that you’ve received. If you will thank God for every little blessing that comes your way, you will never ever have to envious. You’ll see that we are all equal. God loves us all and He shares as much as He can with us.

Everything that we ask for will be given to us — in His own time.

If we start thinking of our blessings and not comparing what we have with other people, then the world will be a very happy place to live in.

Yes, we are all human… and it is human to err. But we can change things.

Let’s all keep this mantra to heart: CHANGE STARTS WITH ME.

If we start to change, the world will change. Let’s all think positive.

If we all think good thoughts, soon the world will be a better place to live in.

Who knows… Pretty soon, we might eradicate Hell and make Heaven on Earth. 🙂
